I've been a serious photographer since 1994, when I started shooting how-to photos to illustrate magazine articles on woodworking. The interest may be hereditary, because my father was a camera buff with a passion for small and subminiature cameras like the Rollei 35 and the Minox C. I shoot a mixture of subjects, ranging from weddings to products to landscapes. A lot of what I shoot comes from the world around me, the things I see every day. There's a fascinating blend of art and craft in photography, and no matter what I come up with on film, there's always a strong pull to go back and get more, better, and different. It's incredibly hard to get a great image, and I have to say that I don't feel there's any I've ever made that could not be improved.
I spent the first 25 years of my life in Michigan and the next 15 in northern California. I moved to San Juan Island, Washington in the summer of 2003 with my wife Sandy and our greyhound Jasper. This is an incredibly photogenic place and there's already a lot catching my eye here! As time permits I'll be out with my camera shooting my new surroundings, and will start posting new work here shortly. Thanks for visiting, and please don't hesitate to get in touch.
