All of the images on this site were produced using traditional photographic methods. My motto is 'use the biggest camera you can carry' and my camera system of choice these days is Hasselblad. This system has exceptionally good lenses and produces spectacular images on 2-1/4" medium format film. It uses modular film magazines that allow the easy use of multiple films, including Polaroid, with one camera. There are many times when 35mm equipment is appropriate, as is large format, and you will find examples of each on this site. For gearheads, an equipment list.
I don't currently use a digital camera for anything serious, but may succumb soon. Digital image capture has advanced to the point where cameras in the under-$1000 range produce images rivaling 35mm film. Digital cameras offering image quality approaching medium- and large-format film are still quite expensive, but they are dropping.
The majority of images here were scanned using an Epson 1200 Photo scanner, a low-end device that produces adequate images from prints, and medium- and large-format film. The 35mm images displayed here were scanned to Kodak PhotoCD by Imagers.
Like many photographers, I am a bit uncomfortable showing my work online--.jpg images displayed on computer monitors are dramatically poor in quality compared to the original film and prints they attempt to represent. However, like all things digital this will continue to improve.
A holdover from my California days, here's a list of resources for East Bay photographers (if you know of good resources in Western Washington, please drop me a line).
